Te Whariki
|
The whariki, or woven mat, has been selected by the Ministry of Education to represent the ECE curriculum. It has four principles on which the curriculum is based and these are interwoven with five strands.
When they are woven properly the whariki gives expression to the Ministry's, an Kiddies Campus', vision for our tamariki. |
How it works |
Weaving a whariki takes knowledge, skill and time. Our teachers cannot do it by themselves so we work with the whanau so the best outcome for each of the children is attained. When we all work together we all ensure our combined knowledge and skills are joined so the whariki is the 'mat' on which the children can stand for their life's journey.
|
The te whariki based curriculum is all inclusive which encompasses gender and ethnicity, diversity of ability and learning needs, family structure, values, socio-economic status and religion.
All of our children are 'empowered' to learn alongside their peers by experiencing day-to-day interactions that have meaning for them. The teachers watch their children and identify their strengths, interests and abilities so each child's experience at Kiddies Campus is fulfilling and sets them up for later in life.
